Quick New Year Rollover Steps (Destiny)

Each year at the end of the school year there are a few maintenance items that need to be taken care of to ensure that you have a smooth New Year Rollover (NYR) transition.

By following the steps outlined in this document you will not add unnecessary network traffic while school is out of session, and will be able to have your Destiny SIF Agent ready for the first day of school for your students.  

End of Current School Year Process

As soon as you have finished your last day of school you will want to follow the steps found in this section.

​Unregister the Destiny SIF Agent in All SIF Zones/Shutdown the Agent

  • Open the Destiny SIF agent console
  • Highlight the SIF Zone
  • Click Zone >> Control >> Unregister
  • Click Yes
  • Click File >> Shutdown Agent
  • Click OK
  • Exit the console from the system tray (right click the icon, select 'Exit Console')

Set the Destiny SIF Agent service to Manual

  • Click Start >> Run...
  • Type services.msc >> Click OK
  • Locate the "Destiny SIF Agent" Service
  • Right Click the service name, select 'Properties'
  • Click the 'Startup Type' dropdown, Select 'Manual'
  • Click OK

Start of Next School Year Process

After all of your students have been promoted to the next grade and your SIS SIF agent is up and running for the new school year, you will be able to re-enable the Destiny SIF Agent.

Set the Destiny SIF Agent service to Automatic and start the service

  • Click Start >> Run...
  • Type services.msc >> Click OK
  • Locate the "Destiny SIF Agent" Service
  • Right Click the service name, select 'Properties'
  • Click the 'Startup Type' dropdown, Select 'Automatic'
  • Click 'Start' to start the service
  • Click OK
    ** The agent will re-register with the ZIS at this point when it starts up.

Clear All Events From Event Viewer

These next steps will need to happen for the Inbound Queue and the Outbound Queue.

  • Open the Destiny SIF agent console
  • Click Tools >> Advanced >> Event Queue Viewer
  • Select the first event >> Scroll to the last event >> While Holding shift, Select the last event
  • Click Delete Selected
  • Click Yes to confirm your action
  • Click Close after all events have been removed

Change School Year to next School year

  • Click File >> Agent Settings...
  • Click School Year on the left
  • Set the School Year Drop down to the correct school year you will be entering
    ** typically you can leave the Date Range at its default setting, unless it does not encompass your School Year
  • Set the Starts month drop down >> Type the day in the input box
  • Set the Ends month drop down >> Type the day in the input box
  • Click Ok

Restart Agent after NYR changes are made

After all of the NYR Changes have been made in the agent it is important that you restart your agent. This will commit your changes and will cause the Agent to read from the new configuration file.
  • Click >> File >> Shutdown Agent
  • Click Start >> Run...
  • Type services.msc >> Click OK
  • Locate the "Destiny SIF Agent" Service
  • Right click on the service >> Select Start
  • Locate the console in the system tray >> Click on the icon
  • Click Connect

Synchronize the Destiny Database With the Student Information System

This process will transfer promoted students to their new schools (Elementary to Middle, Middle to High) and inactivate graduated seniors.  During the Synchronization process all students will be inactivated, then re-activated based on the enrollment data received.  This leaves students that are no longer at the District or Graduated as inactive, activating only the students that are currently enrolled in your District.  After the synchronization process, you can then determine how you would like to manage those remaining inactive students.

*Important* Previously it may have been suggested to unsynchronize the Destiny SIF Agent to clear out old information. This is no longer the case. To prevent data loss Do Not Unsynchronize your Destiny SIF Agent Database. By doing so you will clear out all historical students, this can cause the Destiny SIF agent to not enable accounts for students that re-enter the district after leaving.

  • Click Tools >> Synchronize
  • Follow the synchronization wizard
  • *Important* It is very important that you take your time on step 5 of 6. Making sure to match up all students that the Destiny SIF Agent was not able to match up. If this step is overlooked the Destiny SIF Agent will treat a student that should have been matched as a new student causing there to be duplicates.
Once the Sync Wizard has been completed the agent will convert the information that it received during the sync into events to update the records in your database. The Agent will need to process all of the events for the synchronization to be complete.


Synchronization is stalled on step 4

If your Synchronization is stalled on step 4 this is not usually an issue with the Destiny SIF Agent. The agent has sent a request out to your ZIS addressed to your Student Information System. There is something blocking this message from being processed correctly. See this support article for more information.

The Destiny application is not processing the synchronization tasks

This is likely due to the application not being configured to read the SIF database tables. This setting can be reset on Destiny upgrades or re-installations that may occur over the summer. Information on repairing this issue is located in a separate support article.
