My Synchronization is stuck on Step 4

The following article details how you can troubleshoot a stalled synchronization on Step 4 of the Synchronization wizard.

Step 4

Step 4 of the synchronization wizard ("Choose SIF schools to synchronize with") is waiting for a response to the SchoolInfo object request to the SIS.  The Destiny agent uses this information to populate the list of schools from SIF that you can synchronize with your Destiny sites.  

If your synchronization is stalling here it could be for these reasons:
  1. The Provider of SchoolInfo (your Student Information System SIF Agent) is not responding to the request, or the request is queued up in the SIS SIF Agent queue on the ZIS behind other requests. This could be the case if other SIF agents are trying to synchronize with the SIS at the same time the Destiny synchronization process is being run.
  2. The Destiny SIF agent was not unregistered from the zone during the SIS rollover procedure, and now the Destiny SIF Agent queue is full of queued messages that were published by the SIS during the rollover process. The SchoolInfo response packet that the synchronization wizard is waiting for is at the end of the message queue, you will have to wait until all of the messages are processed to proceed past Step 4 of the Synchronization wizard.
  3. The Destiny SIF Agent queue is full of queued messages because the agent has been shut down or otherwise not processing its SIF messages. The SchoolInfo response packet that the synchronization wizard is waiting for is at the end of the message queue, you will have to wait until all of the messages are processed to proceed past Step 4 of the Synchronization wizard.

Suggested actions:

  1. Cancel the synchronization in the Destiny SIF Agent
  2. Shutdown the Destiny SIF Agent
  3. Examine the ZIS queues to determine if condition 1, 2, or 3 exists in your SIF Zone
    -- If condition 1 is true:
    Wait until the SIS has responded to all requests and the SIS queue is clear
    -- If condition 2 is true:
    Purge the messages in the Destiny SIF Agent queue (you will be synchronizing with the latest data from the SIS, so deleting these messages has no ramifications). 
    -- If condition 3 is true:
    Purge the messages in the Destiny SIF Agent queue (you will be synchronizing with the latest data from the SIS, so deleting these messages has no ramifications).
  4. After the message queues are cleaned up in the ZIS:
    Start the Destiny SIF agent
    Click Tools > Synchronize in the agent console and begin the synchronization process again.
Doing these things should ensure that the SchoolInfo response is received by the Destiny SIF agent, and you will be able to proceed beyond step 4 in the synchronization wizard.
