Accounts Disabled after End of School Year

Overview

When the school year ends, Active Directory and Google accounts are disabled. This typically only affects PowerSchool customers as the PowerSchool SIF agent sends an exit event for all students after the current school year ends.

Cause and Explanation

The PowerSchool agent sends an exit event at the end of the school year which causes the Directory Manager agent to disable all accounts in Active Directory. Once the new year rollover process is completed and the Directory Manager agent is synced with the new year data, the active student accounts will be re-enabled and leave the exited student accounts disabled. This is desired behavior for many districts as it allows for easy management and clean up of old accounts. However, this can cause issues for summer school programs.

Workaround

Since the student's enrollments are already inactive once school ends, it is not possible to re-active the accounts with a sync until the new year rollover process is completed. The only way to re-active accounts for a summer school program would be to do so manually within AD and Google.

If you are using the Google Apps plug-in and have had Google accounts disabled as well as AD accounts there is a support article with instructions on re-enabling accounts based on organization which will help with the manual re-enabling of Google accounts.
