Q.Can the Destiny SIF Agent be used with a Follett Hosted Destiny application?
A. Yes. The Destiny SIF Agent is installed and running in the Follett Hosting Center. You can purchase the Destiny SIF Agent and have your District configured to run in the Hosted environment. Q. How does the Destiny SIF Agent determine Active/Inactive Students?
A. The Destiny SIF Agent determines if a student record is Active or Inactive based on the Entry and Exit dates received from the SIS in the StudentSchoolEnrollment object. Those dates are then compared to the date range configured for the School Year in the Destiny SIF Agent (File >> Agent Settings >> School Year). If the Entry Date is after the School Year > Start Date, and the Exit Date is in the future then the student will be marked "Active". All other cases will result in a status of "Inactive".
Q. How does the active/inactive status work with the Synchronization process?
A. By default, when processing records received during a synchronization process the first action taken by the Destiny application is to Inactivate all records that had been created by SIF (records that have a SIF RefId). After Inactivating all records created by SIF, the application then Activates only those records determined to be active based on the data received during the Synchronization process and the School Year settings. This process was put in place to assist with New Year Rollover, upon the first Synchronization of the new school year all records are Inactivated and only active student records are Re-Activated. This leaves graduated students and students no longer at the District marked as Inactive after the Synchronization.
Q. Why isn't the SIF agent processing the 'Synchronization Tasks'?
A. The Destiny application must be configured to read from the database table that stores the records from a synchronization. This setting is set during your initial implementation, but can be reverted to the default if you have reinstalled or updated your Destiny application. Q. When should I Unsynchronize my Destiny SIF Agent?
A. You should ONLY Unsynchronize when the SIF RefIds provided by your SIS agent have changed. This typically only happens if you change SIS vendors or experience data loss in your SIS SIF Agent. ** In the past it may have been recommended to Unsynchronize as part of the New Year Rollover process, this IS NO LONGER recommended as it can have adverse effects on students re-entering the District or being incorrectly determined Active/Inactive during the Synchronization process.
Q. When should I choose 'Classes' in the Synchronization?
A. You should only choose 'Classes' in the Synchronization process if you are using Textbook Manager within the Destiny application (more information in the article titled "SIF and Destiny Textbook Manager"). If you are only using Library Manager, selecting 'Classes' requests unnecessary data and unnecessarily increases the time it takes to complete the Synchronization process.

Q. Can I populate the X field in Destiny using the SIF Agent?
A. You can populate many fields in the Destiny application with data received via SIF. The SIF data must be published by the providing agent (typically the SIS SIF Agent) in either the StudentPersonal, StaffPersonal, StudentSchoolEnrollment, or StaffAssignment SIF Data Objects. The data can be in standard SIF elements on those objects or it can be received as SIFExtendedElements. The fields available to populate in Destiny are listed in the article titled "List of Destiny fields that can be set by the SIF Agent"
Q.Can I import Student Pictures using SIF?
A. Yes, as long as there is a SIF Agent in the Zone that provides the StudentPicture object. We have published a support article titled "The Destiny SIF Agent and the StudentPicture object" with additional details.
Q.When should I subscribe to the Authentication object and how does that work?
A. Your Destiny SIF Agent can subscribe to the Authentication object in SIF to populate the Username and Password fields in Destiny with values provided by the authoritative source. There must be a provider of the Authentication object registered in the SIF Zone.
